Get Over Yourself!

Debbie Downer…also referred to as “Negative Nancy.” This is a person that people just plain loathe. Who wants to be around someone that finds the worst out of EVERYTHING? Answer: nobody. But for some reason, they hang around and there is always at least one of them lingering at social gatherings. They’ll complain about the food, the music, the people, etc. If they’re outside and there is a pool, the pool will always be too cold and it will be too buggy. Meanwhile, everyone else is trying to have a good time.

Typically, the rest of the people around a Debbie Downer know how to handle the situation. But there are always a few people that don’t know how to respond to negative/awkward situations and they will either argue with them about everything or they will let it impact their “vibe.” These are the enablers. Please, for the sake of humanity - do not enable!

You see, Debbie Downers should not be given so much power. For some reason, they believe that they are so high and mighty that everyone around them should suffer. For what reason? Is it because they were smacked around as a child? Is it because they were dropped on the head when they were a baby? Or is it just because they HAVE NO F*CKING LIFE? We here at GOY say it’s the last choice. So when you encounter a Debbie Downer, and you will, call them out on it and then - IGNORE THEM! They are not worth your time (or our time for that matter…time to end this).

So to the Debbie Downers suffocating anyone having a good time, we say to you: GET OVER YOURSELF.
