The One at Work that Jumps Into Every Conversation

Lunch is a time that we all treasure at work. It is usually a time for us to either get away from everything and everyone, or a time to have good conversation and get a break from work. But there is someone that can ruin this experience for you. That person interjects in any conversation at every opportunity they get. Not only do they interject (interrupt), but usually it is loud or obnoxious, and a ridiculous laugh may even be included.
For some reason they believe that their input was asked for. However, if not spoken to, why interject? It is one of the most awkward feelings and usually causes the entire area to clear out. There are a few ways to tell who this person is (if you can’t tell already - that person is probably you):
1) Whenever this person speaks, everyone else rolls their eyes
2) The lunch table typically clears before this person has an opportunity to get there
3) Overall, they are a loud person
So what can you do? First and foremost - ignore them. No matter how difficult it may be, do not acknowledge their obnoxiousness. Acknowledging anything they say will only fuel the fire. It’s as if you are asking for them to talk to you. Second - give them a nickname. This usually floats around the office, and odds are that these people are so naive and into themselves that even if they do hear it, they will think you are talking about someone else. Finally - if you need to, avoid lunch when possible. Sadly, sometimes the only way to get a break from it is actually leaving.
At GOY, we appreciate the time given to us for comraderie and stuffing our face. That time must not be interrupted. So to the one at work that jumps into every conversation, we say to you: GET OVER YOURSELF!
